Hello,
BigBang is built on an ecosystem of scientific python tools such as NumPy,
Pandas, and Jupyter. Many of these projects enjoy affiliation and/or fiscal
sponsorship with NumFOCUS, a non-profit organization that provides support
for scientific software tools.
As BigBang matures and looks to raise funds for its next big moves, this
raises questions about which organizational umbrella(s) and communities
BigBang will align itself with.
I'm exploring the options now, and am currently at a NumFOCUS Project
summit. I have learned that NumFOCUS has multiple levels of association,
with Affiliation being rather lightweight with few obligation.

I am feeling out our place among multiple ecosystems. I think NumFOCUS
affiliation would be good for our project and not restrict our choice about
future fiscal sponsors, while making it easier to engage with NumFOCUS
directly about what fiscal sponsorship with them would look like.
The application for affiliation is quite simple.
I would like to make moves on this and get the ball rolling.
I believe this is a Steering Committee level decision and wanted to ask if
anyone had any thoughts on this.
Best,
Seb
