[Bigbang-dev] [BBIP] A database backend for mail archives

Hello,

At the IETF 116 Hackathon, we have been discussing how while BigBang
currently stores email archives in flat files, it would be better if it
stored collected data into a database.

I've created an issue for this based on our discussion (and Priyanka's
prototype implementation):
https://github.com/datactive/bigbang/issues/582

However, changing from flat files to a database background would have
far-reaching implications and I have moved to upgrade the issue to a
BigBang Improvement Proposal. Please see our Governance document's
description of the BBIP process:

https://github.com/datactive/bigbang/wiki/Governance#bigbang-improvement-proposals-bbip

I hope we can discuss this proposal and come up with a comprehensive plan
for what it involves. For example, will we need to update all the notebooks
if we make this change? Should we be using containerization of the database
to make the installation easier? What are the implications for the
performance of the dashboard?

Looking forward to this very good change for BigBang,

Seb
