Sorry, I won't be able to make today's BigBang meeting - I am very sorry about that.

However, I have talked with Mridul and he has sent me an overview of the choices (pasted below, all comments welcome).

If we can agree with this, I will go look for funding inside the University of Amsterdam to make this dashboard and infrastructure happen.

We also will need to talk about the GDPR implementation work, all comments welcome on that.

There is also interest from ICANN and RIPE on the dashboard, so we might be able to gain visibility with that.

Sorry to excuse me for the second time in a row, I also won't be able to make the meeting on July 1st, since it is the last day of teaching. But I will be back at things for the July 15 meeting.

All the best,

Niels

There are multiple dashboarding solutions available but let's only look at Voila and Panel for now.
Voila builds on top of ipywidgets which are "native" citizens of the Jupyter ecosystem, and Panel
builds on top of Bokeh. Both work perfectly fine with each other. I would suggest using Panel here
as I think it makes more sense when a lot of data computations need to happen in the backend.
It's also easier to maintain than a Jupyter notebook (which is required for a voila based dashboard)

Now the other issue is about using public infrastructure or dedicated cloud resources:
If we use public infrastructure there are 2 main advantages:
- No running costs for cloud resources once the dashboard is deployed
- No running costs for someone to maintain the infra, even though it should be minimal (1-2 hours a month)
But this comes with it's issues:
- the dashboard's backend computation will be constrained by the resources available by the public infrastructure provider (mybinder)
- it's possible for the dashboard to be "down" when there isn't enough resources available.

Here I would suggest we use a dedicated deployment as we may need to do some resource heavy
computations and it's nice to have a dashboard that has a high uptime and which doesn't depend on
donated cloud credits.

The initial work on dashboard setup and infrastructure setup this will take somewhere around
25-40 hours of work at 100 USD/hr.
