During that session, a participant asked, “How do we create a safe space?” This sparked a more significant conversation for which an hour was just not enough as we collectively shared our own experiences and further questions in response.</span></p>

style="font-family: Montserrat, sans-serif; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Dirk and I have continued to chat about “safe spaces” since then, experiencing firsthand how important it is to build trust with participants early on in both the planning phases and the event itself, as trust facilitates the feeling of being “safe.” Especially with what is happening, the federal grants freeze, in the US has created so much uncertainty for people and their work, and there is an ever-growing need to convene in solidarity and support.</span></p>
