<b>Digital Cathedrals — a travel guide to the places where the internet lives</b></p>

The internet seems intangible, but behind the scenes it consists of very physical places: data centers in anonymous buildings, carrier hotels where networks converge, and fiber-optic cables running across the ocean floor.  </p>

<b>Digital Cathedrals </b>is an alternative travel guide to these places available at

 It started as a search for a way to explain the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), the system that determines how internet traffic finds its way. Along the way, the focus shifted to the buildings and infrastructure that make the internet possible.  Some of these
 places play a key role in the global network; others are interesting for their architecture or history. They are the cathedrals of our time, even though most of us walk past them without noticing.</p>

Digital Cathedrals is a project by <b>Henrik van Leeuwen</b> and <b>Pascal de Man</b>. Henrik is an infographics and visualization specialist with the Dutch National Police and also works as an independent designer and researcher. Pascal teaches coding at the
 Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague and works as an independent full-stack developer. Together they combine design, research and technology to make the physical world behind the internet visible and understandable.</p>
